Summer is ending and the countdown to school begins. This year cut the junk and make way for healthy snacks composed of nutrients that will boost school performance and promote health. Here are some nutritious snacks to include in your children's lunch kit.

Cheerios Mix


Honey Nut Cheerios is every child's favorite cereal. Turn this favorite breakfast into a snack mix by combining it with pretzels, chopped almonds, and raisins.

The best thing is how cheerios is a whole grain product which are rich in fiber. Fiber aids in digestion and glucose metabolism which is good for children with digestive issues and diabetes. It may lower the occurrence of symptoms associated with both conditions that bothers children in school.

Almonds and other nuts are rich in fatty acids that promote heart health and increase cognition. Additionally, almonds are packed with protein which can act as an alternative energy source for individuals who have reduced their carbohydrates intake.

Just like any other dairy product, yogurt is rich in vitamin D and calcium which both play a role in bone development and maintainace. In addition, this specific yogurt is high in potassium, a mineral that improves heart and kidney function. And last, yogurt contain probiotics (healthy microbes) which may boost digestion and immunity.

Celery Sticks with Ranch Dressing 



Celery is a hypoglemic food meaning it is able to lower blood sugar level. Hence, this vegetable is recommended by nutritionists as a snack for individuals who are diabetic. Apart from reducing glucose, celery can also reduce inflammation, cholesterol, and blood pressure all of which may contribute to the development of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Celery is rich in vitamin K. Vitamin K is a clotting agent that can prevent excessive bleeding when the body is internally or externally injured.

Nature's Valley Honey & Oat Granola Bar 


My high school gave these delicious granola bars to students as a snack during State exam season. Go beyond and make it a breakfast. This high caloric snack provides up to 190 calories per pack. This snack can be substituted for a warm breakfast for individuals who are unable to prepare breakfast in the morning.

FYI: Caloric count of this snack is safe. Individuals should consume up to 400 calories daily for breakfast.

Dried Fruits



Dried fruits is a good snack. Although whole fruits are better, dried fruits is recommended because it will not spoil during the day. Just like regular fruits, dried fruit contains dietary fibers, vitamins, and other important nutrients.
